LAS VEGAS -- Kelsi Baker scored a career-high 18 points to lead Texas Tech to a 66-48 win over Oregon State on Friday in the final game of the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic at South Point Arena.
Tech (9-2) bounced back with a more improved shooting performance on Friday after a 50-48 loss to Michigan State in overtime Thursday. The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 23-8 lead thanks in part to a solid first half from junior transfer Jackie Patterson, who hit four of her first five shots - all mid-range jumpers.
The Lady Raiders early equaled its field goal total from the previous day (17) with its first half total on Friday, hitting 14 of 30 in the opening frame (46.7 percent).
Baker seemed to be the only player who could score in the first minutes of the second half as Oregon State (6-6) nipped away at the score but never got closer than 13 points, as Tech's 3-point shooters came alive just in time. Senior guards Chynna Brown and Casey Morris hit three, threes in the second half to keep the Beavers at bay.
Morris ended the day with 13 points and six rebounds while Brown and Patterson each added eight.
Senior guard Monique Smalls and Baker were selected to the all-tournament team - the second all-tournament team honor for Baker this season. Her career-high 18 was the seventh time in the last eight games that she scored in double figures this season. She was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the second half.
Tech returns home on Dec. 30 to take on Houston (4-6) to round out non-conference play before opening Big 12 Conference play on Jan. 2 at No. 15 Oklahoma State (8-0).
