LUBBOCK, Texas - Recognitions continue to pour in for the Texas Tech soccer team heading into postseason play as freshman Janine Beckie was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The announcement comes just one day after Beckie was named Big 12 Rookie of the Year and joined a group of four Red Raiders named to the postseason All-Big 12 First Team. It marks her second Player of the Week honor on the season for the freshman as she was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Sept. 18.
Beckie scored twice in Texas Tech's 2-0 shutout victory over Oklahoma State Friday night to conclude the regular season with a school record 14 victories. On Monday, she became the second Red Raider in three years to be named the conference's Rookie of the Year following in the footsteps of current teammate Jessica Fuston garnered the honor during her freshman campaign in 2010.
The Highlands Ranch, Colo. native ended the regular season as Tech's leading scorer with 11 goals, four of which were game-winners. Her 11 scores led all Big 12 freshmen and were the most by a Texas Tech freshman since current Fuston netted 11 during her freshman campaign in 2010.
The Red Raiders open play at the Big 12 Championships Wednesday as the No. 3 seed with a 2 p.m. match against No. 6 seed Kansas at the Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. The match can be seen live on the Big 12 Digital Network.
