Oct. 29, 2012LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech was well represented Monday afternoon as the postseason All-Big 12 soccer team was officially announced.A total of four Red Raiders were named to the All-Big 12 First Team as voted on by the league coaches, including freshman forward Janine Beckie
who was named Big 12 Rookie of the Year.Sophomore defender Jaelene Hinkle
, senior defender Morgan Johnson
and sophomore midfielder Paige Strahan
joined Beckie as selections to the first team. Tech's four first team representatives were the most of any school in the conference."We are thrilled for these four who have been recognized by the Big 12 coaches and the Big 12 for their outstanding play," Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone
said. "The entire team has worked extremely hard this season to put us in a great place heading into the Big 12 tournament, and we feel honored to have four players recognized on the first team and to have the Rookie of the Year."Beckie's Big 12 Rookie of the Year honor marks the second time in three years that a Texas Tech player has taken home the award as Jessica Fuston
won it in 2010. Beckie led the Red Raiders with 11 goals during the regular season which paced all Big 12 freshmen. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native also led the Big 12 in total shots with 106 marking the first Red Raider to eclipse the 100-shot mark in a single season. Her 11 goals were the most by a Texas Tech freshman since Fuston netted 11 during her freshman campaign in 2010.As stellar sophomore defender Hinkle, who was named to the NSCAA All-Central Region third team during her freshman campaign in 2011, led Tech with five assists in 2012 - three of which came during Big 12 play.Strahan emerged as a top scoring threat in the Big 12 during her sophomore campaign by netting eight goals - five of which were game-winners. Her five game-winning strikes were the most in a single season by a Tech player since 1996.Johnson netted her first two career goals during the regular season in back-to-back matches against West Virginia and New Mexico State. She also recorded four assists on the year as one of the premier defenders in the conference.The Red Raiders, who won a school record 14 games during the regular season, open play at the Big 12 Championships Wednesday afternoon as a No. 3 seed and will face Kansas at 2 p.m. at Blossom Stadium in San Antonio.
