With enough free-throw shooting down the stretch and clutch shots from all over the court, the Oklahoma women’s basketball team spoiled senior night for Texas Tech on Monday night.
Aaryn Ellenberg scored 25 points, and Joanna McFarland added 18 to lead the Sooners to a 77-73 victory in both teams’ regular-season finale.
Tech (21-9, 11-7) finishes tied for third with Oklahoma (21-9, 11-7) for third in the Big 12 Conference, but will get the No. 4 seed in this weekend’s Big 12 Tournament.
A back-and-forth game down the stretch, Christine Hyde put the Lady Raiders up 71-70 with 55 seconds left.
However, Morgan Hand answered right away with a drive and layup, and Tech couldn’t respond on the ensuing possession.
After fouling Oklahoma, Tech had a chance to tie the game with under five seconds left, but a Baker 3 from the top of the key missed its mark.
Hyde led Tech with 22 points, and Chynna Brown added 19.
Tech will receive a first-day bye in this weekend’s Big 12 Tournament. The Lady Raiders play Saturday in the American Airlines Center in Dallas against an opponent TBD.
